Before entering consultancy Barry had almost 20 years' experience in all aspects of human resource management, including training and development, recruitment and selection and employee relations. He held senior personnel posts in Thames Water for ten years and for two years he was the head of personnel and administration, managing 65 staff, in an operating division. A specialist in employment law, Barry is author of several books including 'Essential Facts-Employment', Gee's best-selling employment handbook. He has also contributed to numerous other publications, such as Management Today. Barry is the part-time Personnel Adviser to the Institute of Directors and is an ACAS appointed independent job evaluation expert. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Celia Barker, Associate: Celia Barker previously worked for one of the major consultancies after a career in line management and Human Resource Management in the UK and international hotel and catering industry. Celia is a graduate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Following a career with the InterContinental Hotels Corporation where she became Director of Personnel Services, Europe and Middle East, Celia joined Hay Management Consultants where she worked for six years as a Senior Consultant. Her consulting experience has covered assignments in reward, competency development and performance management in a variety of sectors. She has a particular interest in equal pay and equal opportunities and has assisted several organisations in developing reward structures free of gender bias. Gareth Bennett-Coles, Associate: A lawyer by training, Gareth has more than thirty years business experience. Some fifteen years of this was spent at senior personnel and line management level within ICL where among other posts, he headed up the recruitment function within Group Personnel. Gareth’s consultancy career began in 1982 when he established the Hay Group’s Career Counselling Unit, specialising in all aspects of career transition on both an individual and a group basis. He also conducted assignments on competency and skills analysis for such organisations as the South East Thames Regional Health Authority. In 1992, Gareth joined the MSL Group to develop the HR Consulting Unit. He also developed an Assessment and Development Centre for the Arts and Library Division of Kent County Council. Since leaving MSL, Gareth has continued to specialise in the provision of HR services such as training and coaching, interviewing and recruitment, assessment and development and all aspects of career transition. Gareth is also a Vice-President and a past Chair of the Recruitment Society as well as a member of the British Association of Counselling. Lee Coole, Associate: Lee Coole has worked as a Management Consultant since 1986 and recent projects have included assembling a 'Skills Directory' for two housing associations. This was used to assist managers and individuals identify what was required for different jobs and consequently what training was needed. From 1989 to 1997 Lee was employed by Hay Management Consultants where her focus was on the development and implementation of competency models and frameworks to support HR processes already in place. As a key member of Hay's organisational change team, Lee worked on projects including competency research and design; Behavioural Event Interviewing; Focus Groups; concept formation and development of competency models; the design and delivery of Assessment/Development Centres; facilitating understanding of change requirements and the process of behavioural change. Lee has also been involved as an internal trainer for new consultants and experienced consultants wishing to expand their area of expertise. She has developed and co-delivered courses relating to competency practice and organisational change.
